In Memory of Dr. Keith Hansen

Dr. Keith HansenColleagues of Dr. Keith Hansen, medical oncologist for Northwest Cancer Specialists, mourn the loss of their friend, mentor and coworker.

Dr. Hansen passed away Thursday, August 13, 2009, in British Columbia while participating in a sport he loved---fly-fishing.

Dr. Hansen joined Northwest Cancer Specialists as a medical oncologist in 1999.  He served as Director, Autologus Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation, for the Northwest Marrow Transplantation Program.

Dr. Hansen was a graduate of University of California, Berkeley, and attended the Bowman Gray School of Medicine, Wake Forest University, where he obtained his medical degree.  He completed his residency at the UCLA Hospital and Clinics and his oncology fellowship at University of California, San Francisco.

Dr. Hansen moved north to Portland and established his medical practice in 1978.  Prior to joining Northwest Cancer Specialists, Dr. Hansen was a member and leader of Metropolitan Clinic and Health First.  He was a member of the medical staff at Legacy Samaritan, Legacy Emanuel, Providence St. Vincent and Providence Portland hospitals.

He had a love of the outdoors, in particular a passion for the art of fishing.  He was a leader in the Oregon fly fishing community and a strong advocate for wild fish conservation.  His enthusiasm for fishing was exemplified by his support of multiple conservation projects and organizations, along with long-standing tenures on the boards of the FlyFishers Foundation and Pacific Rivers Council.
